Annenberg Foundation supports City’s vision for an affordable and equitable community
Clifford Beers Housing is excited to announce the groundbreaking for Isla Intersections on November 13, 2019 at 12:00 p.m. Designed by Lorcan O’Herlihy Architects, Isla will be constructed from prefabricated containers and will be fronted by community-serving commercial spaces along a shared street called the Annenberg Paseo. The apartments will be built in the factory and then assembled on-site more quickly than traditional construction. This speed is critical for reducing costs and promoting innovative and replicable models of construction that can provide homes for the 60,000 people experiencing homelessness today in LA County.
When complete, the building will provide 53 apartments for people who have experienced homelessness. On-site social services will be provided by American Family Housing, also a co-developer. The paseo will contain a wall of trees and landscape that will break down pollution from surrounding freeways and provide much needed green space for the neighborhood. The shared street will allow for community events such as street fairs and pop-up markets. This development will be the first of its kind in Los Angeles.
